Be Inspired By Artistic Latino Cuisine: Find It At Rosario's

San Antonio is known for having an almost infinite amount of Mexican and Tex-Mex eateries in town, but few and far between are known for their great flavors.  Through the multitude of taco joints, jaliscos, and cocinas, you can find a few hidden gems, especially one that highlights the Blue Star Arts District in San Antonio.  Rosario's offers fresh, authentic Mexican fare with a colorful artistic vibe you can find throughout the area.  you won't find any greasy bean and cheese tacos here!

I've gone to Rosario's for my birthday every year for the passed few years.  The colorful decor, friendly staff, and the weekend live music make for a beautiful outing for any occasion.  Their ceviche is the best I've had in San Antonio, with tender fish, crisp red onions, the bite of fresh cilantro and delicious avocado, all atop their crunchy tortilla chips, I could eat it as a meal!  Try not to fill up on that amazing appetizer though, because this restaurant has much more to offer.  Another course in my Rosario's meal is always the Enchiladas Suizas.  The white wine cream sauce they use compliments the savory chicken inside without a doubt.  The sides of rice and beans don't really match up to the entree, somewhat typical sides of San Antonio food, but it doesn't discourage me from enjoying the stars of the show.  The rice is usually a bit bland, and their beans are the same as any other place in town.  Their margaritas aren't bad either, nothing particularly unique, but they certainly get the job done.  If you have room for dessert, I recommend the Arroz con Leche.  Fresh, creamy, and delicately sweet, this dessert offers a nice finish to any Mexican meal.  Be sure to take some time to enjoy some of the featured artwork at Rosario's, featuring pieces from some very talented local artists.  One downside to the restaurant is that parking is very limited, so be sure to exude your typical downtown parking patience on this one.


Make a day of it, and find some time to enjoy the rest of the South Town area while you're at it.  If you manage to visit on the first Friday of every month, you'll find yourself in the middle of an artistic San Antonio tradition.  First Friday offers the opportunity for many local artists to show their work, as well as martial arts exhibitions, street music and other colorful characters.
